Frequently Asked questions

If you still have a question, please contact us and ask!

What is a ghost or spirit?

Most people believe a ghost or spirit to be the earth-bound psychic energy of a person who has passed. This energy can manifest itself in many ways. From just a cold spot, a simple orb, or a full body apparition.

How would you validate a request for an investigation?

Interview others at the location, research newspapers and other sources at the local library. Perhaps there are local rumors or stories which a member has heard over the years about that particular location. Plus, sometimes it’s just the way a person comes across to the interviewer that may signal a need for the investigation.

How do you know if someone has a ghost or haunted place to investigate?

We do a short interview with the person requesting an investigation. Then we discuss it with other members of GRIPS. If it appears valid, we research the history of the location if possible and set up a time for the investigation. Equipment and duties are assigned to the members participating. Not all requests are investigated for various reasons such as limited man-power, unsafe location, or perhaps it sounds fabricated and can’t be validated.

Do you charge a fee for an investigation?

No we do not.

Can you get injured while looking for ghost?

You can get hurt doing anything. You can twist an ankle in a cemetery or taking out the trash. You can turn and run into a wall or hit your head at home or on an investigation. As people we are all clumsy and careless at times, we just try to use common sense and always work in groups of two or more for safety.

Do you only investigate at night?

No. We try to time our investigations when the particular phenomenon has a history of occurring.

What types of equipment do you use?

First and foremost is personal observation. We do use a variety of high and low tech items. Dowsing rods, EMFs (for magnetic fields), EVPs (voice recorders), temperature gauges, digital cameras and camcorders, as well as simple 35mm cameras. Check out a list of items we use here.

Why do you hunt them?

We don’t actually “hunt” them, we use a variety of special equipment as well as personal observations to try to dispel or prove what others have experienced. Our goal is to help people and to prove that ghosts do exist. We do not trap or get rid of ghosts or spirits. We simply try to understand the phenomenon, though many situations will remain unexplained, for this is not an exact science.

Where do you go to do the hunting?

We go to many different places such as cemeteries, commercial buildings, or to personal homes to look for spiritual energy. Ghosts were once people and can remain in an area that holds special meaning to them, and that can be just about anywhere. We always get permission to investigate any site.

Are all ghosts the see through types you see in movies?

Ghosts or spirits can take many forms, from a feeling one gets in a certain place of being watched or touched, to an orb or mist that travels across the room. Maybe a playful spirit who moves small objects, just enough to let you know it’s there. A cold spot that has no reason to be there may be a ghost. And yes you could see a full body form.

Are there other types of Paranormal then just ghosts?

“Paranormal” covers many phenomenon. Everything from ghosts, demons, ESP to UFOs and weeping statues. Basically it is the study of the unexplained, actual evidence is elusive. Mostly based on personal experiences and these are very hard to duplicate and therefore prove scientifically. People such as ourselves keep trying to find a way to prove what we have observed or experienced.

Can someone that doesn’t think there are ghosts, hunt for them?

Of course. Skeptics are always welcome and sometimes they are the balance in the search of the unexplained. For if something can’t have a logical answer, then what is it? And a skeptic will help keep a believer on the right track. God bless the skeptic.
