Edinburgh Manor, Scotch grove Iowa

Thursday night the 23rd of January, was clear and cold as we gathered at the house on Kaufmann to start our adventure. Mary, Angela, Martin, Brianna and Linda loaded up the van quickly. The rest of the group were to meet us there at the Manor Patrick and Becca, Jackie, Thomas and Sally, Rhonda and Tim. The location is huge and we had lots of members to tackle the place.

The van with the five members and the bulk of the equipment arrived early and Cindy, the owner let us in. As we signed the guest sheet and paid a message came over the phones that about 8 miles from the Manor that two members, Rhonda and Tim were in a ditch. A snow plow pulled out in front of them and they had nowhere to go but into the snow. Both of them were fine, thank goodness and so was the car, which had to be pulled out and towed. They would not able to join the investigation. We are very grateful they were not injured, though we truly missed Tim’s stress relief toots and Rhonda’s grounded common sense and priceless laugh.

Members came and checked in and we laid out how we were to cover the location. A brief walk through was done, due to the cold it was not advised to do a complete sweep. The average temp in the rooms was about 25 degrees. One could safely say a might chilly.

Cameras were troublesome right off the bat. They are IR Outside cameras, so it must have been the DVRs that were having trouble adjusting to the cold. It was a little frustrating to say the least.

Even with the space heaters the ‘control’ rooms were cold. Throughout the night members watching the video did see orbs, lights and even a shadow was spotted.
The real equipment that surprised us was the Ovilus and the SLS Camera. Since our last visit the owners have been working hard to clean and put the place into shape (which may never happen). One area that had a great improvement was the dining room. It was swept, debris was picked up, table and chairs were there actually giving the impression that meals might be dished up soon. The wilted fans did keep the ambiance true of abandonment and neglect. It was in the dining room that the Ovilus reported “starve” twice on two separate visits, the word “spoon” was also logged in the dining room. One can only imagine how it was with the patients only given measured helpings of food. I, myself have days that I am so very hungry and others when I don’t care to eat. One could understand, inmates begging for more or fighting to grab the scrapes left on a plate. To be limited on one of the basic joys of life would be torment to say the least.

The spirits there at the Manor wanted their despair to be heard. The Ovilus had a few more unique and hard to explain results. Two words that stood out was Eighty followed by Coffin.

These two were right after one another, was an entity informing us that there was 80 confirmed and documented deaths? A few words earlier Head Stone and then Forty was said. Perhaps a reference that only forty burials in the back field had tombstones. The rest were unmarked.

We need to go over the rest of the list, it may indeed be interesting!

Now the SLS Camera was exciting to use, even if you don’t get anything, but we did catch something in the men’s dorm.

Patrick and the girls were doing an EVP session, talking to the young girl who roams the main floor. Linda joined them with the SLS Camera and where the gals said the girl was near the ball on the bed. How right they were! Immediately the camera showed a small stick figure on the bed, when suddenly for a brief time a huge stick figure loomed over the smaller one. The impression we got was a man keeping the young girl from talking to Sally and Becca.

Our real secret weapon were the young girls, Becca and Sally. Their energy was a draw for the spirits. They did catch a man’s voice on the EVP recording they did in the basement. Wherever they were, the energy was dramatic.
